The Archuleta County Democratic Party is finally ready to launch our Pagosa Skyrocket Club fundraising effort. The pins have arrived and an image of one is attached.
For those of you who may not know, the Pagosa Skyrocket is a rare flower found only in areas around Pagosa Springs, mainly Reservoir Hill and south on U’S. 84. It is listed as Endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The plant varies from 12 to 24 inches tall with bright clumps of tiny white and pink flowers on the stalks. So, the Skyrocket is a fitting symbol of the beautiful and unique environment of our county and the importance of the ESA, which is under threat from the current Administration.
Becoming a member of the Club is easy. Just pledge to donate at least $5 monthly to the ACDP for at least 12 months. Alternatively, you can make a one time $60 or more donation to the party. This can be accomplished using the Act Blue button on the party’s website, archuletadems.org. We are advised by Act Blue when a donation is made and by whom. ActBlue allows you to set up an automatic monthly recurring gift or a one time gift. If you don’t like Act Blue, you can mail a check to the party at P.O. Box 3304, Pagosa Springs CO 81147. Note that donations to the ACDP are not tax deductible.
Our goal with this fundraising effort is to collect enough revenue to establish a campaign headquarters for the 2020 election. We have done this in every even year election for the past decade. Office space in Pagosa is always scarce and expensive, particularly on a short term lease. Normally, we would try to have the HQ up and running in July. Obviously, with the current pandemic, it is difficult to know when the situation will improve to the point that we can do so. But we are optimistic that we can get rolling at least a few months before the election. Another concern is that our July 4 picnic, which is always a good fundraiser, may be lost to the pandemic. So, fellow Democrats, we need your help to elect our great candidates up and down the ticket. Please consider joining the distinguished group of Democrats who are members of the Pagosa Skyrocket Club.
UPDATE: For those of you who generously donated to the Pagosa Skyrocket Club, you may be wondering where your pins are. They are all packaged up and ready to go. Unfortunately, the USPS wants $3.80 to send each one. So, what we are thinking of doing is delivering the pins personally without any face to face contact. So, please be patient as we work this out. Thanks.
