Stop the Swap!

Action Alert: Village at Wolf Creek Land Trade.

Help us Stop the Swap - Oppose the legislative trade!

The Archuleta Democratic Party voted unanimously to oppose the legislative land trade for the proposed Village at Wolf Creek.

(see our resolution below)

Congressman Salazar is currently seeking input from elected community leaders about whether to carry the land trade legislation. We need your help to oppose the legislative land trade and ensure a process with maximum public input.

Here’s how you can help!

1. Contact Congressman John Salazar’s office – 813 Main Ave, Ste 300, Durango, CO 81301, 970-259-1012 and through his website here and tell him to Stop the Swap - oppose the legislative trade.

2. Sign on to the petition to Congressman Salazar opposing the legislative land trade here

3. Contact the BOCC. They voted to support the land trade – with Commissioner Lucero the sole vote in opposition.

John Ranson – District 1, jranson@archuletacounty.org, 970-264-8304

Clifford Lucero – District 2, clucero@archuletacounty.org, 970-264-8303

Robert Moomaw – District 3, rmoomaw@archuletacounty.org, 970-264-8305

The Town Council did not send a letter in support of the legislative land trade.

Resolution Regarding the Proposed Land Trade

for the Village at Wolf Creek

WHEREAS the Archuleta County Democratic Party (ACDP) maintains an active interest in the general well-being of the land, resources, citizens and communities of Colorado, and in particular of Archuleta County and the neighboring regions, and

WHEREAS theACDP believes that the proposed Village at Wolf Creek (VWC) project requires a scientifically thorough and publicly transparent examination of the numerous potential impacts prior to any decisions being made on the project, and

WHEREAS such examination of potential impacts has not been completed to date, and

WHEREAS the representatives of the VWC currently are proposing a legislative land exchange with the Rio Grande National Forest to expedite a revised development plan, and

WHEREAS the ACDP believes any exchange process must involve reasonable opportunities for input from local governments, organizations and citizens, and

WHEREAS an administrative exchange process is available which provides opportunities for such input prior to approval.

Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the Archuleta County Democratic Party opposes a legislative land exchange for the proposed Village at Wolf Creek, and encourages the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners, the Pagosa Springs Town Council, Representative John Salazar, Senator Michael Bennet, Senator Mark Udall, as well as the Democratic Parties of La Plata, Rio Grande, and Mineral Counties to also oppose the proposed legislative land exchange.

FURTHERMORE, should a land exchange remain a possibility for the proposed VWC, the ACDP strongly encourages the use of a publicly transparent administrative land exchange process, overseen by the Rio Grande National Forest. This process must include a complete and thorough Environmental Impact Statement and opportunities for input from local citizens, organizations and governments.

Adopted unanimously by the Archuleta County Democratic Party Central Committee – Thursday, November 19, 2009
