To celebrate the freedoms we enjoy and to encourage young people to discuss this topic with the adults in their lives, the Archuleta County Democratic Party is sponsoring a writing and poster contest for all Archuleta County middle schoolers and high schoolers. The topic of the contest is Freedom and Responsibility in America: What They Mean to Me.
While this contest is sponsored by the Archuleta County Democratic Party, the contest is open to all Archuleta County students in grades 5-12 without regard to the party affiliation of their parents or guardians.
Students may enter in either the poster or writing categories. Middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12) entries will be judged separately. Cash prizes will be awarded in each submission category at each school tier: $100 to each winning entry, $50 to each first runner-up, and $25 to each second runner-up.
The deadline for entries is Friday, October 14, 2022. Winners will be recognized at a ceremony on November 12, 2022.
Please encourage students to take advantage of this opportunity to express their views – in words and art – about a fundamental value of American life.
