To celebrate the freedoms that we enjoy and to encourage young people to discuss this with the adults
in their life, a writing and poster contest is being held for all Archuleta County middle schoolers and high
schoolers. The topic of the contest is, “ Freedom and Responsibility: What They Mean to Me.” The
entries will be judged on how well the students express their thoughts about what it means to be free,
to feel free, and the responsibilities that come with this freedom. Cash prizes will be awarded to the
best three entries in each category.
While this contest is sponsored by the Archuleta County Democratic Party, the contest is open to all
Archuleta County students in grades 5-12 without regard to the party affiliation of their parents or
guardians.
There will two categories of entries, one for posters and one for writing. Middle school (grades 5-8) and
high school (grades 9-12) will be judged separately. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning entry
($100), the first runner-up ($50), and the second runner-up ($25) in each category and each school level.
The deadline for entries is Friday, October 14, 2022. Winners will be recognized at a ceremony on
November 12, 2022. For a complete list of rules and directions on how to submit entries, go to
